Sunrise Beach School’s Athletic Programs instill the value of sportsmanship, discipline, and respect for teammates. Athletics are an important part of our our culture. We believe that:
- Participation in sportsmanship is a fundamental part of a well-rounded primary and secondary education program.
- Sports foster the skills students need in today’s world.
- When young people engage in sports, they have the opportunity to strengthen their problem-solving skills, improve their self-regulation and discipline, practice their leadership skills, and gain confidence.
- Our bodies are tools, given to us by God. We are called to care for our physical bodies, through healthy choices. Developing a knowledge of and love for sports can create a lifetime of healthy habits, when established at a young age.
Our Athletics Programs focus on all ages, from Pre-K through 12th Grade, and are built through internal resources and community partners. Our Athletics Programs are both well-established and emerging; growing and solid; and community/partnership-based and SBS-owned programs. Motor & Kinesiology Lab
Sunrise Beach School is home to the only Motor & Kinesiology Lab in a public or private K-12, in the state. This feature is a representation of Sunrise Beach School’s board of trustees strategic vision to uniquely meet the needs and demands of our community, as we see God has presented them into our path.
In 2022, we began the preparations for an exciting new feature on Sunrise Beach School campus, and not long after, the dream came to life. In early 2023, we opened the doors to our Room, which we nicknamed The Wharf. This room features balance beam and other balance training, a pummel horse, rings, rope and aerial training equipment, and other features. The first full year of use of the Wharf was 2023-2024 a rip-roaring success. Countless uses, movement studies, student projects and daily use of the room validated the time and energy put into this space. We are grateful to the community for supporting our Motor & Kinesiology Lab!
To use the Motor & Kinesiology Lab, please make sure the student has a Liability Waiver Form on file. Find this form here.
Jog-A-Thon
For over a decade, one of the school’s favorite athletic events is the annual Jog-A-Thon. This is a chance for each grade-level to compete for speed, duration and pledges as we raise funds for the school.
