Mental, Social, and Behavioral Health at Sunrise Beach School
At Sunrise Beach School, we believe that students’ mental, social, and behavioral health is just as important as their academic success. Our goal is to foster a safe, supportive, and faith-centered environment where all students can thrive. We are committed to ensuring that our students, families, and staff have access to the tools, resources, and support systems needed to navigate the challenges of life in a holistic and compassionate way.
Sunrise Beach School follows the leadership of the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) in prioritizing student well-being. We align with the principles outlined in OSPI’s School Safety Center (View OSPI’s Mental, Social, and Behavioral Health Resources) while also integrating Christian values of care, kindness, and community support in our approach.
Our Approach to Mental, Social, and Behavioral Health
Safe and Supportive School Climate
We cultivate a positive and inclusive school culture where every child is valued and feels a sense of belonging. By reinforcing Christian principles of love, respect, and kindness, we work to ensure that our students can build strong, healthy relationships with their peers and teachers.
Counseling and Emotional Support
Our students have access to faith-informed counseling support that helps them navigate academic, personal, and social challenges. We work with trusted counselors and community mental health professionals to provide resources for students and families when additional support is needed.
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)
We incorporate Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies in our classrooms to help students develop:
- Self-awareness and emotional regulation
- Healthy relationships and conflict resolution skills
- A sense of purpose and personal responsibility rooted in Christian values
- Resilience and coping strategies
Crisis Intervention & Prevention
We have protocols in place to respond to student crises with compassion and immediate support. Our team is trained in early intervention strategies to recognize signs of distress and ensure that students receive the help they need.
Behavioral Health & Discipline with Grace
As a Christian private school, our approach to discipline is rooted in grace, accountability, and restoration. Rather than punitive measures, we emphasize restorative practices that help students learn, grow, and make amends when conflicts arise.
Family & Community Involvement
We encourage strong parent-school partnerships to support student well-being. Parents are an essential part of the mental, social, and behavioral health conversation, and we provide opportunities for them to engage in discussions, access resources, and participate in our school’s faith-driven support system.
