STUDENT/PARENT/GUARDIAN REUNIFICATION
Certain emergencies may require parents/guardians to pick up their student(s) in a controlled release process known as Reunification. This process may be necessary due to severe weather, power outages, hazardous materials incidents, or crisis situations at the school. The Standard Reunification Method ensures that reunification is conducted in an orderly, predictable, and safe manner.
Reunification Location
South Sound Church (Olympia Life Transformation Center)
1717 Eskridge Blvd SE, Olympia, WA
(Located north of Sunrise Beach School on Henderson Boulevard)
NOTIFICATION
Parents/guardians will be notified through multiple communication channels, which may include:
– Phone call or text message from the school’s mass notification system.
– Text message from their student, if permitted.
A reunification message from a student may look like this:
“The school has closed. Please pick me up at South Sound Church. Bring your ID.”
PARENT/GUARDIAN EXPECTATIONS
– Bring valid identification to streamline check-in.
– Remain patient as the process ensures the safe and organized release of students.
– Follow traffic and parking directions at the reunification site.
WHAT IF A PARENT/GUARDIAN CAN’T PICK UP THEIR STUDENT?
If a parent/guardian is unable to pick up their student immediately, the student will only be released to individuals listed as emergency contacts in school records.
WHAT IF THE STUDENT DROVE TO SCHOOL?
– Students who drove to school may not be allowed to leave with their vehicles immediately.
– Parents/guardians may be required to pick up their student.
– If circumstances allow, high school students may be released to drive home independently after verification.
HOW IT WORKS
For Students:
– Remain calm and orderly while awaiting reunification.
– Limit cell phone use to essential messages.
For Parents/Guardians:
– Follow traffic guidelines when arriving at the reunification site.
– Park in designated areas and do not leave vehicles unattended.
– Proceed to the Reunification Check-In Area and form a line based on the student’s last name.
REUNIFICATION CARDS
Parents/guardians will receive a Reunification Card:
– A separate card must be filled out for each student.
– The card contains essential information for verification.
BRING ID TO CHECK-IN
– Parents/guardians must present valid identification at the Check-In Area.
– School staff will verify custody rights and confirm authorized release.
STUDENT RELEASE PROCESS
1. After check-in, parents/guardians are directed to the Reunification Area.
2. A staff member (runner) retrieves the student.
3. Parents/guardians may be asked to enter the building for additional information.
INTERVIEWS AND COUNSELING
– Law enforcement may require interviews before student release.
– Counseling and support services will be available.
